It's now been about eight years since I first walked into Studio Gracia in San Francisco and started Salsa Cubana, and about a year and a half teaching on my own.
It's been a very long journey from where I started and where I'm at now. I've made friends; I've lost friends. The right (and not-so-right) people have shaped the person I've become.
Moving here to Portland and teaching, I'm now influencing others on a broader scale- for better or for worse.
I won't get long-winded about my thoughts on being mentored and how it's shaped how I try to mentor others. Instead, I'll summarize it with this quote from Hafiz*:
Even After All this time
The Sun never says to the Earth, "You owe Me."
Look What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the Whole Sky.
